Stupid fear, getting in the way…
Our book is out in the world and we have it in printed form and it’s time to sell. I have a stack of business cards and I see someone I know (or don’t know) and it’s time to promote the book and myself and I feel the card in my pocket and I’m looking for the opportunity to tell them to buy my book…but it never comes…
…or so I convince myself.
I talk myself out of it: “No one wants me interrupting them… Telling them about my book… They’re busy. They’ve got other things going on. They’re not the right type of reader. Hey, I mentioned my book and they didn’t seem interested. Hey, I don’t want to be that guy….”
On and on and on… I’m good at making excuses.
My wife and son tell me to get my butt in gear and start selling. I’ve told them that they need to start coaching me because I need examples. I need to see how to do “the sell” in action.
But it’s all about fear. I’m usually chatty but not in this new situation. So, for me it’s all about moving beyond my comfort zone. And the only way to get over it is by leaning in and riding it all the way through.
