Hillman Curtis

I saw on Swissmiss that Hillman Curtis had passed away.

I loved his films. Embrace” was my favorite. I would show it to my students and say that they could do it and they would tell me no, they couldn’t.

They were big stories, told simply and beautifully. He did them without elaborate productions values but they always felt expansive in scope. He never limited his genre; he explored documentaries, dramas, comedies, thrillers, disasters, and science fiction.

He did not limit himself. He didn’t ask for permission. He shared his work with all of us.

I never knew him. I never met him. Yet, I will miss him. I wish I had thanked him for all his wonderful creative work.
